On Saturday, 16 October 2010, Christel House SA had the honour and privilege to join an international string quartet known as the Quartet of Peace Concert that took place at the San Souci High School in Newlands Cape Town to raise funds for one of their music projects.
This was an exciting opportunity for CHSA learners, as their voices soared alongside the internationally acclaimed musicians, in turn creating awareness of the much appreciated art.
CHSA Music teacher, Clarke Schilder said that part of the money raised at the event will go towards training a teacher at CHSA to teach the violin to the learners. He also said that this event would create awareness among Christel House SA networks and locals about what the Quartet of Peace does around the globe, which inspire peace and unity through music.
This concert presented CHSA with a unique opportunity, where others could truly see that talent is no match for raw talent.

On Monday 11 October 2010, Christel House SA was extremely honoured to be visited by Mr Spencer Myer. Mr Spencer is the Gold Medalist of the 2008 New Orleans International Piano Competition, so we welcomed him with a program which captured the true essence of an innovative CHSA mission. CHSA learners rendered a traditional dance item, the choir sang and our junior school band opened and our high school band closed off with some Cape Town jazz, which left Myer overwhelmed.
Myer also kept the learners, guests and staff in awe as he worked his fingers so eloquently on the piano. He played four compositions: I got Rhythm – by George Gershwin; Moonlight Scenario – by Beethoven; Waltz – by Chopin and Witch Dance – by Johann Sebastian Bach.
His visit also included a community tour of two of our areas where our learners reside. Bokmakierie and Zilleray Heights, which are informal settlements in dire need of positive transformation and upliftment.

While Myer is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most outstanding pianist in his generation, Christel House SA will continue to let the music play in this generation.

On 27 - 29 September 2010 a group Christel House SA learners’ went on a Boot Camp in Grabouw.
What a marvellous experience we had which ranged from activities such as building one another’s trust to working as a greater team. Our mission as the leadership team is to change the foundation of our school, to being a more leadership based school in order to create a unique and well ordered place.
At the camp we learned how to work together as one creating an excellent atmosphere of leadership and skills that will one day help us in our workforce and also in our homes. It was really worth the wait even though we were ordered to run around a tree continuously understanding that it would help us in the near future, we also had to build rafts which was the best activity that we were told to do by far at the camp not forgetting the talent show we had the last evening which was hilarious and an absolute blast.
Many of us enjoyed it even though it was not easy but it certainly was something to remember forever.

The sound of jubilation echoes in the air, as the ball gets hit to and frow against and above the net. Christel House SA volley ball team cannot seem to get enough of this enjoyable sport.
It is with great pleasure and heartfelt thanks to Growthpoint Properties who handed over a cheque of R25 000 towards CHSA Sports, on Friday, 10 September 2010. R5000 of that cheque went towards the volley ball net.
Christel House SA now has its very own volley ball net which can be used indoor or outdoor. We look forward to the Summer days ahead and the feel of Beach Volley Ball.
Who needs the beach, when it’s right in your backyard.
Christel House SA salutes Growthpoint Properties for making this possible!
On Saturday the 04 September 2010 the KTV Market Day was relatively successful due to the fact that our learners’ performances, such as our school band, singers and stalls were of the highest quality. The competition was tough, but our learners proved once again that they can rise up to any challenge and compete at any level they set their minds to. The creativity of the learners’ items was mind blowing and there was an incredible interaction from the public, as most of the stalls sold majority of their stock. The performances were good but not good enough to get top position this time around, but we trust that next year we can improve and reclaim the top positions again. The highlight of the day for Christel House South Africa was when they awarded myself the KTV Regional teacher of the year and prize money of R5000.
I would like to thank all staff and learners who contributed in making this a success. THANK YOU!!

A tree planting ceremony took place on Friday, 3 September 2010 with one of our Sponsors ~Safcor Panalpina. They sponsored our Grade 12 learners’ with matric jackets and a 42 inch plasma screen tv for our library for education purposes and invigorating learning. The initiative was honouring Arbour Day and Casual day. The three trees planted were the Cape Lancewood, Sausage Tree and the Cape Ash. The Safcor staff were enthusiastic and hyped up in getting their hands dirty along with the Grade R learners whom were more than keen to get their hands and clothes dirty, as each got a chance to shovel and be part of growth and development.

Safcor Panalpina Team with the Christel House SA grade R learners
A joyous occasion for all as we celebrated new beginnings of life and future partnerships. As these trees flourish and bloom in season, the Christel House family will surely be remembered by the Safcor team and their wonderful giving.
It was truly an exhilarating experience not only for Safcor, but for the grade R learners as they ended with a song called Sunshine, followed by huge hugs of appreciation and thanks.
Thank You Safcor Panalpina for caring, sharing and making a difference.
We Salute you!
